Louis Theroux the settlers

The famous skill of Louis Thru is to put his interviewees at ease, disarming them with a quiet, inquisitive tone and then letting them hang themselves. This is always made for compelling viewing. But in his new documentary about Israel’s illegal settlers, that skill brings out damning and desperately important results. The BBC’s coverage of Israel’s genocidal onslaught against the Palestinian people has overall been a bonfire, and it’s unlikely that this documentary about these settlers could have been made without Theo’s journalistic stature and reputation. Now, let’s start with this clip featuring Danielle Vice. She is the fright leader of Israel settlers who takes credit for the legal settlements which have been founded all across the West Bank, which is illegally occupied by Israel.

indeed subjected to the longest belligerent occupation of anywhere on earth in modern times. There an estimated 700,000 Israeli settlers living in around 270 settlements. Let’s have a listen. So the idea is to force the government by putting people starts with small settlements then they get bigger then they get recognized by the state of Israel and basically creating a new demographic reality.

Louis Theroux, The Settlers – BBC Two

We do not force a government. we do for governments what they cannot do for themselves. Um even if you take Nathaniel now he’s very happy what what we do here and also about our plans to build Jewish communities in Gaza. He’s happy about it but he cannot say it. He says the opposite. It’s not realistic. Good. We will make it realistic. It’s not forcing the government. It’s helping the government. It’s step number one. One in politics. You don’t force the government. You give the government the courage, the ability, the public support, the political support. I think you understand what I said. even if you disagree.

Almost cartoonish evil stuff there and it is testament to the impunity these people have enjoy which they know they have which is why they speak so candidly and honestly just on this Jake Wallace Simons a fervent cheerleader of Israel who has written what I would describe as hideous tweets celebrating Israeli attacks which has very obviously killed large numbers of Palestinian civilians. He deleted one which was widely condemned included by myself. He’s written an article for the Jewish Chronicle headline to demonstrate impartiality in quotes. The BBC shows the worst Jews they can find. So for start this headline of course seeks to conflate as ever classic modus on brand here Jewish people with Israel and indeed Israelis by saying the worst Jews.

Louis Theroux: The Settlers (TV Movie 2025)

Now, in the article, Jake Wallace Simons doesn’t actually say if Danielle Advice qualifies as one of the worst Jews the headline writer is referring to. He writes, “She’s abrasive, animated, and comes across as crude in comparison with the urbane Englishman asking passive aggressive questions. There’s nothing you can see which is critical of her in this article. So if we were going to make this article headline more accurate so we could engage with it that the documentary on its own terms. I’m saying it’s not a more accurate headline. I’m saying if if it was less dishonest on its own terms it would be that the documentary was trying to find the worst Israelis they could find to make Israel look bad.

The Settlers review – this vital film forces Louis Theroux to

Well where the likes of Daniel Levine fall on a sliding scale of hideousness in Israeli society is really besides the point here. Let me explain. Indeed, financial and environmentalist Ben Goldsmith has said something similar. He says, “The extremists picked out by Louis Thru represent a nutty fringe within Israeli society, which makes for fascinating viewing, but about as an accurate representation of the whole as Tommy Robinson is of UK society.

” He then goes on to say, “Whereas he could pick more or less, sorry, where he could more or less pick interviews at random from the other side and he’ll find that terrifying obsessional extremism is in fact perfectly representative of Palestinian society.” Now, that would be an illuminating documentary, but Louie wouldn’t dare make it, of course, because no matter which corner of Gaza or Judea and Samari he chooses to visit, he knows he’d be unlikely to come out alive.
So, he makes hideous generalizations about
